This is a natural electrolyte drink with a single purpose: to keep you optimally hydrated, period.

It has been scientifically formulated for use during sport and exercise. Nosht Endurance Drink Mix is saltier than your average sports drink, offering optimal electrolyte content for hydration. It also gives you a select group of amino acids to further boost absorption and fluid retention, ensuring that nothing is lost or wasted. Our formula allows you to absorb significantly more fluid than with water alone.

Nosht Endurance Drink Mix is 100% vegan, low-FODMAP and gluten-free, contains no added preservatives, colours or anti-clumping agents and the delicious taste it delivers comes from real freeze-dried fruit. It contains only 50% of the carbohydrates found in typical sports drinks, whilst bringing 50% more electrolytes. How and when to use the Endurance Drink Mix

  • Simply dissolve in water, using a ratio of 1 scoop of powder per 500ml.
  • Drink about 1 litre of this mix over half an hour, 2-4 hours before training.
  • Drink as much as is required during training to maintain full hydration, especially when taking part in endurance athletics or when training at higher temperatures.
  • Each 350g jar of Nosht Endurance Drink Mix makes up to 20 litres.

 Studies have shown that drinking high sodium beverages before training increases blood plasma volume. This results in reduced thermoregulatory and perceived strain during exercise in the heat, leading to an increase in exercise capacity.

  

The science behind Nosht Endurance Drink Mix

During the course of normal life, we lose about two litres of water per day just by breathing, sweating going to the bathroom and maintaining a healthy digestive system. This can be increased to as much as two litres per hour when we exercise, depending on the nature of the activity.

A mere 2% loss in body weight due to dehydration can reduce athletic performance by up to 20%. With the fluid loss, your core body temperature will rise, as will your heart rate, the glycogen stored in your muscles will be used more rapidly- leading to greatly diminished energy reserves- and lactic acid will increase, leading to fatigue and cramping.

When you first feel thirsty, you will already be 2% dehydrated. At this percentage, you will likely experience headaches, tiredness and a loss of focus. These alone will inhibit your performance, and will all worsen the more dehydrated you become.

We also lose more than just water when we sweat. Two key electrolytes are lost: mainly sodium and a small amount of chloride. Therefore, to maintain adequate hydration levels when we exercise, we need to replace:

  • lost fluid
  • lost sodium
  • and lost chloride

The Nosht Endurance Drink Mix is a scientifically formulated electrolyte solution which utilises simple carbohydrates and amino acids in order to facilitate maximal water absorption and enhance hydration. There is more to it than this, however: its main aim is to maintain hydration during exercise without causing any GI stress.

What is a hypotonic drink and how does it differ from an isotonic drink?

Hypotonic drinks are lighter than your blood and so are more rapidly absorbed into your system through osmosis. They also clear the gut quickly and efficiently, absorb from the small intestine and are the best solutions for staying well hydrated.

Hypotonic drinks are not energy sources, unlike isotonic drinks. They are not trying to replenish the body’s glycogen as it depletes through exercise. Their focus is purely on hydration.

Isotonic drinks have electrolyte and carbohydrate concentrations that diminish osmosis: their osmolality is of a similar level to blood. Isotonic drinks are good for getting a tiny bit of energy and some water into our body, not for maximal hydration.

The Nosht Endurance Drink Mix combines the science behind Oral Rehydration Solutions with that behind sports drinks and gastroenterology.

Typical sports drinks try to achieve two competing goals at once: keeping you hydrated whilst providing you with energy. Of course, this is an appealing idea, and would be very useful were it to be realised. However, hydration and fuelling work against one another. Limiting our approach to just one goal- optimising hydration- means that the effect is without compromise.

Why Does Our mix contain amino acids?

Small amounts of amino acids have been shown to improve water and sodium absorption from the small intestine. This is a big part of why our product is so successful at hydrating athletes.

 

Why is our mix saltier than other drinks?

Effective fluid replacement drinks should contain a small amount of sodium. This simultaneously improves plasma osmosis whilst replacing the salt lost through sweating. Recent research with similar sodium levels has indicated beneficial effects of relatively high sodium contents on the maintenance of positive fluid balance and the restoration of hydration for several hours after exercise-induced dehydration.

In order to be really effective, a fluid replacement beverage has to have way more salt than the average sports drink has. 

However, there is a dilemma: if the taste is too salty, you tend to drink less, which is counter to our goals. We, therefore, engineered our recipe in order to get the amount of sodium in it to the optimal level, without allowing any of its nice flavouring to be sacrificed.

The result tastes a bit saltier than your average sports drink, contains an appropriate amount of sodium for rehydration, and is still delicious.
